Who Needs America?
Not I...dost thou?

Happy 7th of July, mortals! Another fine holiday for America, kicked off by a pile of cruel, shoddy, bloated legislation, which shall harm some irreparably & others, permanently. & as I wander this burning, over-paved land, I find myself wondering…who needs America?
The enjoyable parts of America—the land, the creatures, the people—these are not “America.” They are trees, & birds, & mortals. If the federal government dissolved today…would ye miss it? Would ye not feel a sense of relief?
249 years ago, a crew of wealthy slavers, infuriated by a marginal increase in their tax burden, revolted against a tyrant. & in its place, they set up a fresh tyranny, one they dared call the “United States.” They claimed to believe all men were created equal, yet held men in bondage, laughed at the notion of women voting, & ensured the poor could not hold office. Those “Founding Fathers” found the courage to rise up against the British Empire—no small feat, truly—& yet they were terrified by the idea of freeing their slaves. Why ought we respect such men?
Why ought we honor the tyranny they created? 249 years of war, genocide, slavery—ye fought a war about slavery, then…kept slavery?

“There shall be no slavery, except, there shall still be slavery”
Blasphemy! Amoral cruelty! & now with a madman upon the American throne, 249 years of carefully-maintained systems of oppression are brought to bear upon the most vulnerable. The disabled, the unhoused, the “undocumented,” this America now gleefully stomps their skulls into the bleak hot blacktop—to say nothing of the mortals abroad meeting their ends daily thanks to American bullets & bombs.
Who needs America?
For what?
Mortals are, for all thy flaws, an imaginative bunch. Surely, ye can all imagine living some other way? Organizing thy society in some other way? America starves children, explodes weddings, kidnaps people into slavery with no repercussions—can ye not imagine anything better?
I know ye can. Thus the question becomes: How much longer will ye allow a better world to remain merely imaginary?
Ah, well! Climate change & an eviscerated bureaucracy may answer the question for ye, sooner than ye think—perhaps start imagining with haste?
I know the odds are against ye, & the situation is grim, but all mortal empires fall eventually. Ye deserve better, mortals—& ye shall have to build it.
Thank ye for reading, mortals! & we thank especial those generous beings who can & do support our works here with coin!
I shall write ye Wednesday with news of this week’s episode, plus a little surprise! ‘Til then—be safe, be well, & let those imaginations run wild…
Cheers,
