PLUS: Ocampan biology, explained

A joyful prelude to horror
A somber Saturday evening, mortals—poor Mister Neelix has been attacked by a BILLIEN FACE-HUGGER! If ye missed the terrifying tragedy—if ye missed the “Mambo Americano” & our tributes to Mister Neelix & an extended discussion of dermal regeneration technology—absorb the replay right here!

The horrible moment
Our night celebrating Mister Neelix was marred by some malicious slander from the audience—reprehensible allegations about his relationship with Kes, the young Ocampan woman he rescued from Kazon captivity. Claims that the kind, cheerful Mister Neelix is some sort of horrible pedophile—which could not be further from the truth!

Neelix & his girlfriend who is one year old HANG ON LET ME EXPLAIN
When Kes & Neelix meet, Kes is just over one year old—because her species, the Ocampans, live only about seven or eight years (aside from the clan of Ocampans who worked with Suspiria to extend their lives to twenty years). They reach adulthood within just one year, & spend the next few as adults, until they begin aging rapidly around age six or seven. So, Kes was an adult when they met. Elves can live for millennia—to them, thou humans are like Ocampans, fragile mayflies who become adults at a very “young” age.
Now, ye might say, “Why in the world would a writer create such a thing?” & indeed, if this were fiction, ‘t would be most bizarre to invent some kind of pedophiliac fantasy race of beings who are very young & write them into romantic plot-lines. But, of course, Star Trek is a documentary series about thy future. Thus, Ocampans are real, & therefore, there is nothing weird about it. But again, if a writer did make it up, we would all be right to ask that writer why they would create such a creepy situation.
Thank ye for reading, mortals! & thank ye extra-much to the growing cadre of kind & generous mortals who can & do support our works here with coin!
If ye missed it, our ICE recruitment ad from a few weeks past is now on YouTube (& everything else). Right-wing mortals seem to have discovered it, & are VERY UPSET, which I find endlessly amusing.
I shall write ye come Monday with the next part of my Samhain adventure, the “Sepulchre of Slop!” ‘Til then—be safe, be well, & remember to #PrayForNeelix!
Cheers,
