Redacted morning’s greetings, mortals! Of late, I notice, ye find thyselves aswamp in misery & notices of villains long gone—& so please enjoy our latest adventure module, the tragically-relevant “FOREST OF PHANTOMS!”

Thou & thy companions arrive in the hamlet of Akirima™, a dismal place shrouded by misery & mists. The locals prayed for brave adventurers to cleanse the woods, which bristle with ghosts, ghouls, & shadows. But as ye dig, it seems more than ghosts reach from the past to claw at the future in the FOREST OF PHANTOMS!

LEGAL NOTE: This adventure takes place in the mysterious fantasy setting of Akirima™, which is nothing like so-called “America.” Any similarities to persons, history, & sins, are.

Explore Akirima™, a village haunted by the sins of its forefathers—literally! Each monster in this module is not some random creature, but rather, a horrible villain with an extensive personal history, rooted in Akirima™’s past. Each of them escaped justice for their unthinkable crimes, becoming potent phantoms & growing in power as the years passed.

The gruesome ghastly fiends who fill the fields & woods surrounding the village, offer a chance for action-packed encounters between the lengthy sessions conducting interviews with victims & combing the local archives, both of which comprise the bulk of the playtime. Wow!

In addition to a hand-painted, high-quality, natural cloth map (included in the Docent’s Edition™), each copy of the FOREST OF PHANTOMS includes 744 pages’ worth of diary entries, chronicle scrolls, accounting books, & blood-stained letters, to enhance the players’ experience. Along with our unique new Special Collections System™, with this module you can provide players the genuine thrill of thoroughly examining documentary evidence!

To enhance replayability, we’ve included backstories & stat blocks for a vast array of villains to fill out the FOREST OF PHANTOMS & Akirima™’s history. Including: the banker Geoff Epsteyn; Odyssey-Master Johan David Norman; Ioannes, Wainwright of Gacy; Ser Lawrence King; Dark Priest Aquino; the Wretched Lady Maxwell; the terrifying monster-men of Ranger’s Troupe #137; Archdeacon Wyrm; & more! Each character comes with a list of mayors, aldermen, counts, jarls, town guards & so forth, all of whom may be used by the Dungeon Master to cover up their crimes & stymie the players’ efforts at seeking justice.

If the players are able to overcome staggering institutional efforts to hide the truth, then the main adventure begins! Once they have constructed a comprehensive case, uncovered the local corruption, & pieced together the dark history of Akirima™, they will face a serious choice: do they attempt to deal with the problems in the present? Or, find some way to travel into Akirima™’s past, & deal with the problems when they were fresh, stopping the horrors from spreading? The latter solution requires knowledge of magic, & a bit of ingenuity, but using chronomancy to confront the town’s sins in the past is much easier than trying to exorcise an entire FOREST OF PHANTOMS.

Thankfully, this is a fictional adventure, because if Akirima™ were a real place, where, say, monstrous fiends had run about unchecked for a century, spreading evil, with their tracks covered by all the most powerful people in Akirima™…goodness, that would be a dire world indeed!

If ye implement our optional “Extended Campaign™,” which pits the players against an extensive trial & appeals process that adds 2d6 years to their adventure, be sure to add some helpful NPCs to aid thy poor players!
